Pre-WEC 48 Musings
As the WEC's first foray into the land of pay-per-view looms over the MMA community in a manner quite dissimilar to the way those spaceships from "V" loom over the Earth, I'd like to share some thoughts in regards to WEC 48: Aldo vs. Faber:
- This card represents perhaps the most critical point in Urijah Faber's career thus far. For one thing, he's facing off against the most dangerous opponent of his career. Second, after going 2-2 in his last four fights, he desperately needs a win in order to cement his legacy as one of the greatest featherweights in MMA history. The worst thing that could happen would be for him to get quickly and brutally knocked out, which is certainly a real possibility.
- Of course, Faber's being expected to carry the card (and by default, the entire WEC promotion) to success -- although no one will blame him if the WEC does abysmal PPV numbers. However, if poor numbers were to be coupled with a Faber loss, people will start shoveling dirt on the WEC casket at an even quicker pace than they already are. While the "California Kid" has been in similar positions before, the stakes have never been higher than they will be on Saturday night.
- Will the third time be the charm for Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone? One has to think that Cerrone needs to pull out a victory in order to cement his status as worthy of making the eventual transition to the UFC. If "Cowboy" loses, will he drop down to 145 or will he stay at 155 long enough to seek a grudge match against Jaime Varner?
- Right now Mike Brown is a -800 favorite but the reality is that the odds should be even higher than that. Manvel Gamburyan has done well thus far in his WEC-stint but Brown is just about the worst possible opponent for him. I am going to predict that of all the fights on the main card this will be the best one to grab a couple drinks during.
- After nearly decapitating Chris Horodecki his last time out, Anthony Njokuani will be gunning for his fourth consecutive Knockout of the Night award when he faces Shane Roller. One major thing standing in his way (besides Roller): Jose Aldo. Njokuani's last three KO of the Night performances have come on cards that Aldo has not appeared on. For the record, Jose Aldo has notched two straight KO of the Night awards and three of his last four fights have earned him KO of the Night honors.
So now we at WKR want to hear your thoughts:

I'd rather (and probably will)
go watch at a bar thats showing it legally @ no cover & spend the $45 on drinks/food specials.
I think it might do 150K buys, ans Aldo finishes Faber by the 3rd.

where the hell do you go that they show it free? I've only been to a bar that didn't charge cove once
for 103 because there was a longhorn game on. And to Mr. Becker, who’s shoveling dirt on the WEC casket?

Referring to the “WEC being folded into the UFC” chatter that’s been picking up steam lately.

What he said.
I’m going to the bar and spending 20 bucks on feeding and drinking myself silly.
Course, I always do that.
mmm beer
20 bucks to drink yourself silly ? Lightweight. Or maybe you live somewhere where 1 beer doesn’t cost 5 bucks at the bar.
Yeah I’ll be doing the same unless 4 of 5 us get together and throw in like we do for the UFCs.
