Will the Octagon Girls go to Abu Dhabi?
Update: The Octagon Girls will be at UFC 112 in all their bikini boy short glory.
This weekend the UFC will hold their first show in the Middle East. While this is a great moment of excitement for UFC international expansion, there's this gnawing, silly question that has been bugging WKR: will the Octagon Girls go to Abu Dhabi?
For those who aren't up to speed with Arab and Muslim cultures here is quick refresher. Abu Dhabi may be one of the more liberal Gulf countries --then again, when your neighboring emirate is arresting people for kissing in public it isn't hard to be considered "liberal"-- and women are not required to wear the hijab (head scarf) but local women still wear abayas (the long black, flowing garb), which covers their bodies, heads and sometimes faces, as a sign of modesty. Obviously there are different expectations for Westerns in country but the Emirate's official English language tourist site states that, "[women and men] are advised not to wear excessively revealing clothing in public places, as a sign of respect for local culture and customs. This also applies to public beaches, where swimmers should avoid excessively revealing swimming suits."
Will Zuffa send the Octagon Girls in their boy shorts to walk the cat walk in front of a Muslim crowd that may be offended? Or will Chandella and Arianny wear different, more Muslim friendly attire at UFC 112?
Why are we even ask the question?
Well, Dana White recently implied that Dan Hardy's Tibetan tattoo was not included in an UFC 111 poster due to Zuffa's attempts to enter the Chinese market (China and Tibet aren't exactly buddies). So it stands to reason that the UFC would take similar steps with the sexual elements of their product while in the Persian Gulf.
When WKR contacted Zuffa officials we received no official response on whether or not the Octagon Girls will in attendance or feature altered uniforms.
Update: Arianny's twitter account says she is going. Unfortunately she didn't attach a picture of her wearing a bikini...

hmm
interesting , now i am curious as hell, i wonder arrianys twitter account says anything?
cognizant and respectful of the culture
i doubt they’ll flaunt the ladies in their “traditional” UFC boy short outfits..
i hope they don’t put them in bhurkas either though..
I’ve read that Rhiana performed at the same facitly the UFC is being held at. Surely they didn’t require her to perform in traditional middle eastern garb. Maybe the ocatgon girls will wear more of a one piece type outfit. Eh, who cares bring on the fights.
They built the facility within the last month
explicitly for the UFC event. And Rhianna doesn’t perform in a bikini.

It’s actually a large entertainement complex called Ferrari World on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi that was completed several months ago and has hosted several American music acts. It was not built specifically for UFC 112, a wing of it was modified for the event so seating surrounds the cage. AFAIK, once the events over that section will be deconstructed.
You apparently haven’t seen any of Rhianna’s video’s recently as she’s fond of just wearing electrical tape “X’s” to cover her chesticles.
I have a good friend from the UAE
he describes it as the Europe of the middle east. Being that this is not really a public event, meaning it can be avoided by the average citizen, I’m not sure why they would change anything. I know Dubai is really trying to attract tourism so I would assume the same would go for Abu Dhabi. If you havent already check out THE WORLD

Fall Back . . .
They should fall back with the ring girls.
I wouldn’t be caught dead publicly kissing, hugging or fondling a woman out there. And most definitely I wouldn’t be caught drunk having sex on a beach over there.
It is not worth going to jail.
People over there take that kind of social behavior really serious.
