UFC 112 Press Conference Notes: If a Tweet falls in the Forest and no one is there to Read it Does it Exist?
It appears that only Kevin Iole and Ariel Helwani are in Abu Dhabi for UFC 112. Luckily both live tweeted the press conference this morning. Here are the notes:
- Octagon Girls will be seen on Saturday in all their boy short glory.
- UFC is planning on holding an event in Afghanistan in three months for the troops. Obviously, there are security concerns.
- TUF is going Middle Eastern! According to White a new season will begin filming in 2-3 months though Dana is "still laying the groundwork" on the show. Those two points seem counter-intuitive...
- Dana believes that Kimbo introduced a lot of fans to the UFC and they are sticking with TUF 11. If the ratings are any indication then this is probably not true.
- Still no word on Toney debut.
- White states that the UFC will head to China and it will be "sooner than you can imagine." Though doesn't say a time frame. For those that are keeping track we can add China to the list of countries like Japan, Philippines and Brazil as places that the UFC is maybe, eventually definitely going to.
- Dana points out that there are 300 million 18-34 males in India and it will be a huge market. I guess we can add India to the above list.
- White believes that WEC 48 will draw 150,000 pay-per view buys and implied that Goldie and Rogan may do play-by-play
- Finally, it's time for your dose of MMA crack, otherwise known as "Fedor to the UFC speculation". White was coy, stating that he has talked to Fedor's management "more recently than you would think".
- More speakers were brought in for UFC 112 then when Aerosmith held a concert in Abu Dhabi.
- The stadium will be torn down on Monday.
