Overeem vs. Rogers and Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery Hangover
Some thoughts while I recover from my Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery hangover...
- Alistair Overeem is still a pretty damn good heavyweight. Dare we say he "Reem'd" Rogers?! *crickets chirp* That doesn't sound right...
- Also, Alistair's first name is the least intimidating first name for a guy who eats horse meat. He should be Attila Overeem, Agamemnon Overeem, Alcibiades Overeem or how about Anakin Overeem?
- Wow did Brett Rogers look tentative and uncomfortable. For a guy who blitz Andrei Arlovksi ito near irrelevance and held his own against Fedor, Rogers was almost Jamesian in his caution. What made it even more bizarre was the fact that Rogers cited his loss to Fedor due to being tentative. So if Rogers was tentative against Fedor what does that make his performance against Overeem? Shilly-Shally? Thank you word of the day calendar...
- So, if Fedor beats Werdum then Strikeforce will be set up for an Overeem-Emelianenko main event. Would that be on CBS or pay-per view? Just keep the Diaz's away and let's get in on network television for the sake of everyone's bank account.
- Also, an Alistair-Fedor fight would probably be one of the more interesting fights to follow just to see what the camps would say. Hell, it would almost be the European Union vs. The Russian Federation. Just watch out for the polonium-210!
- Time for a brief example of MMA math: Brett Rogers hung with Fedor for a round but was demolished from the get-go by Overeem. UBEREEM IS BETTER THAN FEDOR!
To show why these transitive comparisons don't always work let's examine college football real quick. Purdue beat Ohio State but Ohio State beat Oregon who lost to Boise State. That means Purdue is the third best team in the country!
- Andrei Arlovski's new girlfriend and sport psychologist were suppose to improve his mental fortitude. Arlovksi's time with ATT and Greg Jackson were suppose to make him a better fighter. While Andrei did survive a few flush punches he still lost. Perhaps he should try dating multiple women before his next fight. That couldn't possibly be a bad idea...
- Anotonio Silva fought a good fight as he quickly built up a lead in the first round and then whenever he felt uncomfortable he immediately tied up Arlovski and wore him out a long the fence.
- Now what to do with Antonio Silva? How about Silva vs. Brett Rogers? Now, there's a fight that every EliteXC fan wanted to see!
- Strikeforce still has a nice little heavyweight division with some possibilities. Clearly Andrei is no longer at the top of the heap though the guy still has an impressive MMA toolbox, for a heavyweight anyways... But that doesn't mean fans don't want to see him fight. Arlovski got a large cheer and every time he does his vampire grin you can almost see the MMA boners pop up. Why not pick up Paul Buentello to fight Alrovski?
- Jacare still needs time to develop and while he slowed way down in the third round Ronaldo was never in danger of losing to Joey Villasenor.
- Roger Gracie defeated Kevin Randleman! The honor of the Gracie Clan will not be undone! Prepare for a new era of Gracie dominance! MUHAHAHA!!!
Too much hyperbole? I thought so...
- Oh my god! I can't believe that announcer kept pronouncing that Brazilian guy's name wrong. Seriously, how much longer are we going to have to listen to Goldie say José Aldo as oppose to Joze Aldo. Oh, you see what we just did there? Boom goes the Semtex!

take some heat for this.
I would take Overeem in the Fedor / Overeem fight. The problem is, even if Fedor beats Werdum, it’s not a forgone conclusion that M-1 Global will take the fight. Fedor and his management are very careful in the opponents they hand pick. Fedor’s legacy is the only asset M-1 Global currently boast. So, it wouldnt be in their own best interest to fight Allistair. I wouldnt be surprised if Fedor fights Big Foot or Josh Barnett next. M-1 will prolly try to renegotiate after the Werdum fight. Allistair is the biggest threat to Fedor not under contract with the UFC, so, it would shock me if M-1 and Fedor took the challenge.
If Russia attacked Turkey from the rear, Do you think Greece would help?
Arlovski can continue MMA with the knowledge that once he loses to some bottom-tier competition and becomes totally irrelevant in the Heavyweight department, he can quit MMA and take up acting as Leonidas, in the theatre productions of 300.
Silva looked impressive, and won. Rogers didn’t, and lost. Knowing Strikeforce, they’ll probably match them together, cos its the ‘right way forward’.
UBEReem. End.
What the ancients called a clever fighter is one who not only wins, but excels in winning with ease.

So what about Maia, Sonnen, Marquadt how does that work or does the head just explode
Fortunately, this is an easy equation. Observe:
Maia + Sonnen + Marquardt < Anderson Silva
What the ancients called a clever fighter is one who not only wins, but excels in winning with ease.

PLUS?
Sorry, I don’t buy it. Sonnen holds him down while Nate pummels him and Maia finishes with a choke.
Nice try but Sonnen is going to beat Anderson at UFC 117, so we’ll have to come up with another chart that makes sense of it all.
easy, big guy
