I dont like what they did in the demo.

Too many knockouts… and the switch to a faster more arcade style game play; 2:30 second rounds, quicker animations of every move i tried, and a shine only submission system all tell me they are going the way of the Madden vs 2K divide of arcade and realism. I wonder if EA will be on the flip side with go with more realism, closer to the pace and fighting of last year’s Undisputed,

What d you mean Madden vs2K?

I was really impressed with the Demo the grappling is sooo much better it’s not even funny, I think the realism has been improved dramatically. I like how if you land a few unanswered shot you can rock someone and the recovery time appears to be reduced. You really can finish some one from any position I tried, the ground and pound is much more realistic and the escapes are better as well. Being able to use the cage in and of itself is enough to call the game a success.( Rampage is the shit at slamming people up against the cage and delivering death by uppercut. And the clinch, ahh the clinch, it’s the best part of the new game the way you can transition between position and work strikes from different area’s really adds to giving the game a realistic feel. I think EA is gonna have their hands full trying to compete.

You sound like you want to play a stylized cartoon

1) When 2k was still aloud to make football games they tried to make a football sim. Madden is more an arcade style.

2) In a real fight an effective jab is used far more than a cage slam, and that game doesnt have it. A real fight has 5 minute rounds… the clock moves at double speed. I dont care if i have the big names on the fighter list like “rampage”. I like having them in the game, but the game play itself is what i care about more. Recovery periods are reduced because its the difference between Street Fighter 2 and Street Fighter 2 Turbo. Real fights have pace, which is what i liked about the first game. only the elite fighters could finish with a good combo or sub someone bases more on real factors like fatigue and not spinning a stick as your only option of defense. They did some great things like adding more styles and fight camps and all that jazz, but for me it is inferior if the finished product plays anything like the demo.

3) All that being said i cant see how those factors could improve realism in any tangible way for myself. As someone who has trained a bit in real life Undisputed 2009 is what i prefer from that demo. Its a rent and see for me,

4) EA has more money, time, resources, employees, and market share to make a game that has impact. They will have it on network TV with CBS. Deals like that give me faith that competition will be fine seeing as THQ cant afford to advertise like an empire can. Even if its bad it will sell and push the devs to make Undisputed 2011 better also.

5) Personally i think they should only release one game every 3 years instead of trying to sell me a roster update and turbo mode.

The clock moving at double speed does get on my nerves,

I don’t get your argument about spinning a stick, that was the way to submit someone in 2009 and I like that part of the game when it comes to transitions it makes the game way more fluid and the fact that you can strike at all time in the clinch adds to the realism substantially. As far as your like for 2009 more while I did enjoy the game now that I’ve played the 2010 Demo I don’t think I could go back, what really bugged me about that game is that there were set combos and everyone’s moves were pretty much the same the fighters in 2010 each have individual move sets which actually mimic the fighters there based off of.( in the demo the Machida foot sweep is one of my favs) and each fighter moves and walks a different way( Shogun especially) in my opinion the level of realism that brings to game is hard to argue. And fatigue seems to play into this game just as much as before.(the added flash submission feature is a good example) While EA is a monster they have dropped the ball before( Arena, and whatever that coaching simulator was) I think that Undisputed is going to be the industry leader, the roster in and of itself is gonna be hard for EA to compete with.
In conclusion I really feel like this game is gonna stand on it’s own and not just a roster update and “turbo mode”( I’m looking at you ODST)

In the end you control the fighter.

If i wanted to see Machida i would watch Machida. If i wanna throw a jab with the fighter that cant even snap the head back when the real thing does no matter what fighter throws and lands it….I gotta call BS on that.

“Shining” is spinning the stick with your palm as the devs suggest on their website.

I want a fighting game that feels natural without quick time events like spinning sticks with no time to actually start doing it before you are tapped. The other games had two stages which made sense like setting up your submission in real life. As fun as it seems to break my controller, i want to the face buttons or stick as my option between strength and finesse.

I like the addition of new content/moves, but stepping back in the most important part of real fighting (PACE!) is too big a backward step for me. Adding these things to last year’s game would have been awesome, but they changed the feel of it and made it into an arcade game instead of just adding the things you listed.

Most of the the things you pointed out are only superficially there (aka its in the game) and don’t add anymore than CGI adds to movies but chops out the the dialogue and story to make room.

Super Street Fighter IV is available for those like combos and super knockouts. Maybe in the next game Machida will have a dragon punch too.

More power to ya if you are into that. I just prefer my fighting to feel like it as well as look and sound like it.
Other people think it sucks too that i have played it with that play 2009 still. shrugs

Wait and see huh?

I never noticed a difference in pace, while the striking is somewhat slower I think it feels

more realistic and faster when all levels of combat are used clinching takedowns etc. , and there are flash subs in the game that no matter how much you spin the stick it doesn’t matter. I;ll continue this tomorrow

by doonerthesooner on May 17, 2010 6:04 PM EDT reply actions

i think the striking is good, but im not a fan of preset animations for the grappling and their stupid grappling system in general, and dont get me started on the retarded spinning the stick to sub someone, this game is far from real, the only fun part of this game is the stand up but i have a feeling ea mma will be way better because their standup is going to have a fight night feel from what ive heard

by 1inchpunch on May 18, 2010 12:04 PM EDT reply actions

preset animations get old, i think they said they had to animate 24,000 animations to make this game well if thats the way they wanna do it they should have made 100,000 animations to make this game good. i would want there to be like 10 different ways you could transition from one position to another

great attempt thq but we are along way from having a realistic mma game

by 1inchpunch on May 18, 2010 12:06 PM EDT up reply actions

there are just so many things you can do while grappling, i would want a grappling system not based off animations but actual movements from your controller so the grappling sequence would always look different and wouldnt get old in like 5 minutes like the grapplin on the demo did…

i mean fuck, i train bjj and love grappling but i dont even wanna grapple on the game or go for subs, subbing people in 2009 burnt a hole through my palm..thq u suck

by 1inchpunch on May 18, 2010 12:09 PM EDT up reply actions

I think the grappling is dramatically better in this game so far, I think your argument for for a system that is based off movements from your controller is a little unrealistic, you only have so many ways to escape a position so you can only have so many animations, the last game got very old for me because it seemed like the grappling and clinching were like a mini game in the game it just didn’t flow together, also we are talking about quite possibly the 4 best LHW in the world right now, there really isn’t too much you can do to on the ground as far as transitions and escapes that would feasibly work. As far as the spinning of the stick I don’t mind it because I can’t think of a better way( I hated the button mashing in the last one) I’m not to excited about the EA game because my favorite fighters will not be in the game and I can’t play Fight Night so if it resembles FN in any way I’m probably gonna skip it.

by doonerthesooner on May 18, 2010 2:09 PM EDT reply actions

u didnt like fight night, that was pretty realistic in what you can do in boxing, only things u couldnt do in that game was move while leaning, which people do sometimes so in that aspect fight night isnt realistic but it is 90% realistic and very fun to play. It is a technical striking game and if ea mma’s striking is like fight night i dont see how you would think that would not be good

by 1inchpunch on May 18, 2010 5:26 PM EDT up reply actions

instead of spinning stick you could do something like moving the stick a certain direction until you feel vibrations and then you would need to push a button or button sequence, the person on bottom would be moving his stick to keep the person doing the sub from finding the right spot with his stick while pushing a button sequence to escape

i just thought of that in 10 seconds and i think it would work better than seeing who can spin the fastest. plus i got that from thinking about how other games do shit, in elder scroll when you pick locks is pretty much what i described, they need to look at the controls of another game and adopt a better system i mean i dont even work for a video game company and i feel like i can go into thq and smack them around and tell them whats up
