Oh yeah, Tim Sylvia is fighting the 'World's Strongest Man' this weekend

Pressconference_medium

In the best freak fight since Sylvia vs. Mercer, Tim Sylvia will fight world's strongest man Mariusz Pudzianowski (are you noticing a pattern of the common thread in the freak fights?).

Sylvia seems quite jolly about the situation, that is, in-between offering his services to Strikeforce or the UFC.

"It's going to be a good fight Friday night. I've been asked if it's been difficult finding workout partners like my opponent who is 280 pounds with 4-percent body fat and gases-out after 45-seconds. Yeah, my workout partners don't usually gas-out after 45-seconds. He (Pudzianowski) is big, strong and a worthy opponent. Friday night we're going to have some fun."

Tim's career might have turned into a bloated sea otter zombie after he lost to Mercer in nine seconds (here's the video for those needing a fix of schadenfreude) but if he were to lose to Pudzianowski it would be the equivalent of that undead otter being crushed by a giant sack of Polish meat for zombie kill of the week.

But as MMA Fighting and others have already pointed out, the big--well, the meaningful fight on the card, is between Tara LaRosa and Roxanne Modafferi:

One of those five was a decision victory over Modafferi four years ago, and Modafferi has wanted a rematch ever since. Modafferi has suffered some losses to bigger fighters (including to Marloes Coenen at November's Strikeforce card), but fighting LaRosa at 130 pounds, she'll actually have a bit of a size advantage, and despite the sports books making LaRosa a huge favorite, I wouldn't rule out Modafferi pulling the upset.

Star-divide

A few members of the MMA media, including Sergio Non at USA Today and Leland Roling at Bloody Elbow, have noted the significance of LaRosa vs. Modafferi, but I sense that there are very, very few MMA fans who realize that one of the biggest women's fights of the year is happening on Friday night. The handful of fans who do know about LaRosa vs. Modafferi will get their money's worth from the Moosin pay-per-view, and not because of Sylvia vs. Pudzianowski.

Freak fight or Female fight? Which will prevail?

What weight class is Sylvia vs. Pud’s being contested at? Timmah’s looking awefully puffy still.

Yah…. tara might have some ring rust. But honestly, the books are set properly. The chicks a beast. By far the best fight this Friday in any card anywhere

Even a broken clock is right two times a day.

Is it me or does “Pudz” look like the reflection of Cro Cop in a fun house mirror.
