Hornbuckle vs. Askren set for Bellator Welterweight Final

Photo via Bellator.com

Both Dan Horbnbuckle and Ben Askren won last night setting up the welterweight clash we've all been waiting for. Alright, the use of the word "we" there might have been a little over the top but Hornbuckle vs. Askren represents a serious welterweight fight between two rising prospects.

Also, Bellator featherweight champion, Joe Soto, defeated Diego Saraiva in the third "Super" fight that was the least super of the group. Basically, if the three "Super" fights were Super Friends the Soto match would've been Aquaman (dork high five!).

Full Results

  • Joe Soto def. Diego Saraiva via TKO (doctor stoppage) - Round 1, 5:0. Non-title fight.
  • Ben Askren def. Ryan Thomas via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27). Askren advances to the welterweight finals.
  • Dan Hornbuckle def. Steve Carl via submission (kimura) - Round 1, 2:31. Hornbuckle advances to the welterweight finals.
  • Scott Barrett def. Ty Lee via TKO (punches) - Round 1, 2:25.

Star-divide

  • Chas Skelly def. Daniel Pineda via submission (kneebar) - Round 2, 2:16.
  • Joe Christopher def. Brandon McDowell via submission (guillotine choke) - Round 1, 1:36.
  • Johnny Bedford def. Jared Lopez via TKO (strikes) - Round 3, 2:16.
  • Douglas Frey def. Aaron Wise via submission (guillotine choke) - Round 1, 0:4.
  • Joshua Smith def. Donyiell Winrow via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

And we should probably write something witty here but we'd rather look at pictures of the Bellator girls instead:

What could she possibly be starring at? Is she looking at me? No, she can't be! Should I go over there? Alright, I'll do it but I have a feeling this isn't going to end like the pool scene from the Sandlot...

Askren is a good prospect, but Hornbuckle is way to much for him and too well rounded. I do expect Askren to get out of the first round though.

Askren needs to work on his Sub’ game if he want’s to beat hornbuckle.

Pain don't hurt...
