Junior dos Santos the boxer?
Junior dos Santos is stuck in no man's land waiting for the first batch of prospects (Shane Carwin, Cain Velasquez) to get their title shots before he can really jump into the top of the division. Of course, it doesn't help that dos Santos is a training partner of the Nogueira brothers and won't fight Rodrigo. So what is a fighter to do?
Well, he could always fight some middle tier talent or he could try his hand at boxing, like Rogerio Nogueira did recently.
Usually, a MMA fighter potentially shiftng to the 'sweet science' is face palm worthy. But dos Santos boxing trainer has high expectations:
"The first step would [have been] the Brazilian championship, after he beat Cro Cop. He was the super heavy holder of the Bahia's team, but UFC scheduled his fight with Gilbert Yvel, so I had to take him off the team", explains Dórea, confident that the UFC's athlete talent could bring Olympic medals to Brazil. "His evolving is fantastic, he has one of the best boxing techniques of international MMA. If everything goes right, he will compete on this area and, who knows, in the future he can bring a few medals to Brazil... He is a phenomenon."
Maybe we will finally see Junior's ground game during his boxing debut...
