TMZ is Conquering MMA News Media: Griffin may be out of UFC 114

Forrest Griffin had a boo-boo and needs to spend some time in bed

To all those bright eyed and bushy tailed MMA reporters out there you should probably quit while you're ahead as TMZ is dominating the MMA news media with several big stories.

Thiago Alves brain injury -- TMZ.

Tito Ortiz and Jenna Jameson troll job -- TMZ.

"Rampage" Jackson miscarriage lawsuit -- TMZ

Seriously, WKR has more TMZ releases in our inbox then MFC press releases and we get those four times a week.

The latest news broken by TMZ is that Forrest Griffin may/will withdraw from his fight with Antonio Rogerio Nogueira:

Forrest Griffin -- one of the most popular fighters in the UFC -- is backing out of his fight later this month because of a bum shoulder ... TMZ has learned.

Sources tell us the former UFC light heavyweight champ's shoulder injury is serious enough that he won't be able to fight Lil' Nog on May 29 in Las Vegas.

The extent of Griffin's injury is unclear.

That's a potential big loss for UFC 114 as Griffin vs. Nogueira added some extra juice. Hopefully, Rampage, Rashad and UFC Primetime will be able to carry the burden themselves.

Update: Other sites are reporting it as well. Changed from "rumor" to "news"

This is a huge blow for UFC 114. That was a great co-main event and who knows what happens now.

I’m thinking the best thing they can do would be to pull Jon Jones from the UFC on Versus card and schedule him to fight Lil’ Nog. It’s a huge step-up in competition but this card deserves a big-time co-main event and something like Lil’ Nog vs. James Irvin won’t cut the mustard.

Jon Jones wants the extra attributes for his character in UFC Undisputed so you know he will come out swinging. Then again the thought of Thiago Silva standing with Little Nog has already made me wet myself.

On another note, I believe BE has put a moratorium on all TMZ stories.

Yeah I guess Thiago Silva would be a good replacement but I’d much rather see Bones in there.

Also, the BE moratorium on TMZ is news to me. Interesting…

Does anyone else think Zuffa has some type of “deal” with TMZ? Say what you will about those dirt sheet websites, but they generate a TON of traffic from a variety of different types of people. I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if someone in Zuffa’s PR dept. tips TMZ off first to generate their own publicity, not unlike what “celebs” do. In reality it is probably smart marketing because they end up reaching demographics they normally would never hit. I bet this shit eats the heart of Josh Gross and other legit MMA reporters.

They just pay more for tips than some of the other sites. What a world. Someone is getting paid off but it isn’t Zuffa’s PR Department I suspect, as they are rarely the first to know anything.

Do you suppose it it the fighter’s camps or the fighters themselves tipping off papparazzi as a way to make some passive income?

Jonathan-Total MMA is an incredible book, definately in my top two as far as MMA reference resource material.

I’m not one to blow smoke up someone’s ass. It’s a legitimately good book, with lots of nice tidbits.

Probably a good thing for Griffin career-wise. I don’t see any way he would have beaten Nogueira, it was an awful match-up for him. Jon Jones vs. Little Nog sounds like an awesome fight, but it may be a little too soon for Jones. Thiago Silva would be the ideal replacement imo.

Forrest will always have a spot in the UFC as a fighter, just the same as Bonnar, and they can always find him interesting matchups even if they are not for title contention purposes.

I'm happy

Would’ve been a good fight, but both these fighters are so awesome, don’t want to see either of them lose. But I don’t want to see a draw.

So, I went Tonya Harding all over Forrest when he was asleep.

Then I stayed a little longer after I knocked him out and smelled his hair.

THEN I drew a dick on his face and wrote “I LOVE FATTIES” on his arm.

Being that this will be my first live MMA event, I’m let-down about Forrest pulling out, but even more pissed that it’s supposedly Jason Brilz stepping in. There’s some decent fights throughout the card though, I’m guessing Diego and Hathaway get the FotN…
