Can Rashad defeat Shogun?
The real meaning behind the Rashad Evans-Rampage Jackson UFC 114 main event wasn't the bad blood between the two fighters.
The true context focused on the victor earning the right to fight Mauricio "Shogun" Rua for the UFC light heavyweight title.
Since Rashad won, do you think or believe he has a chance of beating Shogun? Remember, fans and the media punditry were quick to dismiss Rashad's chances against Rampage after he beat Thiago Silva due to a poor third round, something we saw again tonight.

Rashad should be the favorite in that fight, Shogun can’t stop the takedown and after a couple of rounds he’ll be gassed just like Rampage and Thiago were.
Funny how both guys supposedly let Rashad off the hook, I wonder why that was?. I’ll answer because both guys got worn down by his takedowns and when they finally got a shot in they could’t go for the kill they were drained.
Rashad learned his lesson after the Machida fight that he isn’t going to outstrike everyone and that his bread and butter is wrestling. He will use his speed and explosiveness to impose himself on Shogun and stop him in the later rounds.
Yes
He very much can beat Shogun. I remember in the Machida fight, part 2, that Lyoto took him down without much of a problem. Shogun has some vaunted Muay Thai, yeah, but I need to see how he looks against a good wrestler like Rashad. I think style wise it’s a good matchup for Evans. Of all the 205 guys I think Rashad and Randy Couture pose the worst matchup for Shogun. We’ll find out.
I am quick to say . .. . AW MF’in HELL MF’in NO!! but I read your comments and thought about it . . . you do have a point.
- Rashad obviously is not going to be stupid and stand and trade.
- Rua tried so many times to unsuccessfully take Machida down in 2 fights while Machida easily took him down in the clinch. Can Evans take Shogun down . . . heck yeah.
- Seriously the TUF 2 winner was not supposed to defeat Liddell, Rampage or Thiago Silva in my opinion. Some how this guy finds a way to pull out the W by playing to his strengths and following a game plan.
- I’m hesitant to say it but Evans is an elite fighter at 205 and can possibly beat anybody with the right strategy BUT I still think he can very well lose to guys like Thiago Silva, Rampage and most definitely Shogun.
Good match style-wise for sure. But I’m still thinking . . . AWW HECK NO.

agreed
It makes me love his fights, cuz I honestly never know. Put him up against tons of top guys and you get a situation where he can win or lose.
T. Silva?
Rampage?
Griffin?
Shogun?
Lil Nog?
Franklin?
etc.
etc.
etc.

Yes
But Rashad will have to be ready for sweeps and crazy kneebars and heel hooks.
Remember when Shogun damn near ripped Randleman’s leg from his hip? As a fan of both fighters it will suck to see one lose but it is a compelling style match up of two top tier fighters that any fan with a brain should be happy to see.
very intrigueing match up
Rashad’s speed won’t be as much of a factor as it was last night. And although he can out wrassle the champ, shogun has superior striking and jiujitsu. So who knows man. Good fight
