UFC 115 Result: Evan Dunham defeats Tyson (in spite of spike)

-1_medium
(Apparently spikes are legal in MMA now...)

Evan Dunham won a split (which judge hit the bong in Vancouver) decision against Tyson Griffin with a smart tactical gameplan.

Dunham used his superior length to great effect, countering Griffin's strikes with solid punches. Once Tyson began leaping in to throw strikes Evan would change levels and shoot for a single leg and take Griffin down. It was somewhat shocking to see Dunham take Griffin's back and control a fighter that many believed was a top wrestler at 155lbs. Evan latched in on hs opponenets back so tight that he didn't let go when Tyson spike'd him into the canvas, a move that is suppose to be illegal.

In the end Dunham won a decision in a fight that wasn't as close as the judges score indicated.

The spike was not illegal. You would need to do something equivilent to the Undertaker’s Tombstone for it to be considered illegal.

FYI…Tony Weeks was the judge that gave it to Griffin.
