Tick Tick Tick: Time Running Out in New York for 2010 (like we've been saying)
Remember when we wrote that MMA legislation in New York was facing a big hurdle because they are running out of time (It's not like we haven't been writing the same thing for years [2009] [2008])?
It looks like someone is finally listening (though there's that rosy colored Marc Ratner quote) as Mike Chiappetta talks about the lack of time and possible hope for MMA in New York in 2010.
After today there are only two more sessions (tomorrow and Monday the 21st) for the Assembly to pass MMA legislation. If it doesn't happen by then (it won't) then the last hope will be for an emergency session to pass a budget (it's coming) and the hope that MMA legalization will be apart of the budget passed.
The problem is that things like human cockfighting -- pardon, I mean ultimate cagefighting -- err, I mean mixed martial arts aren't things that politicians fight for when there's things like schools, pensions, firefighters and police on the line. Which is what will happen if the government of New York shuts down without a budget.
But hey, just like the New York Mets, there's always next year.
