New York's Legislative Calendar Ends, No MMA Bill but Keep your Fingers Crossed for a Budget

Yesterday was the last session for the New York legislature and the Assembly did not pass the MMA bill that the Senate voted on last week.
The Governor will most likely call an emergency session in order to pass the state's budget. Such a session would most likely focus solely on the stalled budget as the state of New York, like most states, is in a serious financial crisis coupled with hyper-partisan politics and scandal. The good news is that the MMA legislation is in the Governor's budget proposal the bad news is that this is New York and the budget issue is extremely murky and complicated.
Just how bad is it? This American Life has an entire episode dedicated to the morass that is New York's budget and it is definitely worth a listen.
