Bleacher Report Drops the Ball on UFC 116 Story
Bleacher Report made a big whopper of a mistake when they posted a story saying Brock Lesnar is out of UFC 116 (a story decimated throughout the internet). This was quickly shot down as patently false and Bleacher Report took the story down.
Look, we aren't journalists here at WKR nor do we make any attempt to be (this is not a paying gig for those who think otherwise). That doesn't mean we don't hear a fair amount of rumor and chatter around the MMA universe. The difference is that we choose not to write about it --like the time Dana White was in drag singing Journey at a karaoke bar (Ed's Note: it's a joke people!) -- because we know that it wouldn't past muster at a newspaper or a news reporting website.
Now, what we do find funny is that Bleacher Report is credentialed by the UFC when they have serious issues with how they operate (Dan Levy of The Sporting Blog talks about it quite often). A puzzling decision for an organization that, on the surface, appears to take the credentialing process very serious.
It would be easy to pile on the author of said story, a seventeen year old, but that would ignore the larger issues with how Bleacher Report operates, which is the real culprit in this caper.

everytime i see “the bleacher report” i remember “under the bleachers” by seymour butts, and i giggle… that is all
I'm old school hating Lesnar, I've been hating Lesnar since '08
I'm going to start being the BE or KidNate of commenters, I'm just going to copy and paste your comments and say "I agree & Dana White sucks!"
To be fair have any of you read anything from Bleacher report?
It’s not like they pretend to be a “fair and balanced” information source, shit they actually have some of the most ridiculous articles on MMA i have ever seen. I saw one one time that was something like “10 MMA stars and the celebrities that would melt their hearts” or something like that every they put on there I take with a grain of salt.

I go to Bleacher Report for Steelers information...
and blogs and they are usually pretty much fluff pieces written by regular folks like you and I. They never use spellcheck and alot of the information isn’t fact checked. This story doesnt surprise me one bit.

Yes – this story and situation sucked and it isn’t the first time it has happened through Bleacher Report, and they most certainly have flaws in their system, structure and way of doing business…
That said, there is a lot of great work done there too that no one ever makes any mention of. It’s always the same “why are these guys credentialed?” and “they suck” routine, and it’s getting old.
For every story like this that some 17-year-old kid effs up, there are a couple great interviews and features being done with fighters and stories that are on par with the work being done on many MMA sites, but no one addresses that. Sure there is some fluff and filler, but you get that everywhere… including here.
The credentials thing is an empty complaint – the UFC is looking to maximize their exposure through the mainstream and the strategic alliances that B/R has built gives them that opportunity.
Does it suck that anyone affiliated with B/R can get credentialed? A little, but only when it’s some talentless hack. They do have good people over there who have done an excellent job covering events, but no one is giving them praise when they do…
This specific situation – the Lesnar out rumor thing – was a mistake, and a semi-big one, but it’s not the end of the world or reason to condemn the entire site as being a wasteland…
