UFC 116 Lesnar Vs. Carwin: UFC Fighter Picks

Y'know what they say about big hands?

This Saturday is the much anticipated UFC heavyweight unification bout between interim champ Shane Carwin and returning champion Brock Lesnar. Personally, I'm much more hyped about this fight than I was for any of the past Lesnar fights. This is Brock fighting, in my opinion, the best heavyweight in the UFC in Carwin, and I was pretty surprised to be in the minority. It seems a lot of people are taking Lesnar, who is trending at about -150 in the betting lines. We'll have to wait and see but I have a feeling Carwin is going to let his fists (he's on the right) do the talking. Enough rambling from me, who are the pros taking in this fight?

I voted for Brock

But both of these guys are so inexperienced and sloppy that it can go either way considering their power. Who chooses to shoot versus strike and when they do it is gonna be a big deciding factor.

Should be fun for however long it lasts.

Brock's best punch is a hammerfist

…so you know Greg Jackson is gonna be ruthlessly training Carwin to defend the takedown at all costs. If it stays standing, I don’t think Brock will last longer than a minute or 2.

Why do the irish fight amongst themselves? NO OTHER WORTHY OPPONENTS...

I remember watching the Lesnar/Carwin “fist bump” live. First thing I said was “Carwins fist is big as shit!”

uhhh?

you have muscles in your hands. they can get stronger, bigger, smaller, and weaker. last time I checked that’s how muscles work.

Big gloves.

Forget it Donny, you're out of your element.

...they make a big f*cking dent

Looking forward to seeing if Brock actually has a chin to go along with that Texas-sized cranium! This should be promoted as the true Clash of the Titans…

I'll take Carwin

I have seen some of Lesnar’s college wrestling videos, but have been un able to find any of Carwin’s wrestling clips. Lesnar has the better wrestling credentials, so many prognosticators are thinking that this fight is going to be GSP v. Hardy 2. However, the wrestling levels here are much closer. I don’t see Lesnar taking Carwin down like Herring (who also was taken down easily by Jake O’Brien). Lesnar had trouble keeping Couture on the ground, while Carwin stood up fairly easily against Gonzaga who has a sold top game.

So the question isn’t if Lesnar can take Carwin down, but if he can will he do it easily and continuously. I think the answer is clearly no. Standing Carwin seems to be able to put anyone to sleep with a touch of his meat hammers.

I see the fight playing out with an early shot by Lesnar. Carwin defends and gets pushed up against the cage by Brock. Because of the weight loss Carwin out muscles Brock to change positions and put Lesnar against the cage. Carwin wins by meat hammers from the clinch in the first.

YES I DO KNOW WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT BIG HANDS

Wait, what? Predictions on what? I got distracted.

I'm funny and/or inappropriate on twitter @metricjulie
I also have a blog. I try hard to be funny and it's uncomfortable sometimes. www.metricjulie.com

Is this a question?

Shane Carwin is going to put the overrated giant to sleep. I see discussions about inexperience, but the difference is composure. Brock has none, while Shane fights like a veteran. Randy Couture, although a true hero to many of the MMA community (as he should be reveared), made Lesnar turn it into a wrestling match because he didn’t like getting hit. All Carwin has to to is lay some leather on Lesnar’s face and that is all she wrote.
Wrestling pedigree may be an issue to some, but not when you have GSP, Rashad Evans, and Greg Jackson working with you. The only advantage Brock truly has is size, but I would wager stregth is closer than many account for. Carwin was weighing in at a solid 285 at the expo.
With real boxing skills, a wrestling background, and Greg Jackson’s training and team there is no question about whose hand is going to be raised Saturday…" AND NEW, UFC HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD, SHANE CARWIN!!!"
