UFC heading to Germany, it's a good thing the German audience is blacked out

(Guess whose coming over for dinner honey?)

Hey, the UFC is headed back to Germany!

After a successful first show in 2009, it appears the promotion will be heading back to Germany sooner rather than later. They aren't backing down from the challenge of the local government that wants to take the sport off of television there.

Wait, that show was a success? Besides being lambasted in the German media UFC events are now banned from German television. Even if your being generous that card has to be ranked as a draw at best due to the fact that they can't legally show events any more! Then again, if an entire country is blacked out it should improve the live gate.

But kudos to the UFC for going into the lion's cubs den for a second show.

White told that press that the goal would be to head their in 2010. Our guess, the German card would be in October or early November.

So London Mid Oct and Germany in Oct/Nov? no way

So Cologne 99 was a blast…105 manchester a blast….but back to back euro events? No way..even if its 120 in London, would 122, 123 or something so soon after be in Germany? After speaking with them about the Netherlands, they want in, but there are some ‘organizations’ making that less sexy than most of Europe despite the hunger for combat sports in Holland
So Im down for either event, but really it makes more sense to work on Germany than to try to expand further in the UK. The UK has a strong market, lots of fighters, and a bright future in MMA. Germany is still a work in progress with MMA, English language broadcast, and their dislike for blood on tv.
I do have one request…how bout some new fighters from the stable fighting on Euro cards. So predictable the undercards have become with some Rough House gang, Wolfslair fighters and some fan friendly big names like Swick, Couture or Franklin. How bout the debut of Arona, Machida v Rampage, Vitor return late Nov in Germany against Sonnen the champ (ahahaha right)..

If they are going to do it in 2010, they usually do a big one at the end of Dec. and Nov.

With 120 set for October and England then 121 would have to be late October early Nov. IF past trends continue.

though

I did forget that 119 is early Aug so they could do the German show late Aug. as 120 and then do 121 in Oct

Yahoo Streams?

Perhaps they have a big following online in Germany that makes ‘em think it’ll go over well? Dana recently said they run lots and lots of numbers when they plan their dates. But that’s Dana, so who knows?

There should be a rule….. If you country was directly resposible for the largest most violent war in human history, (only 65 years ago) you should have no grounds to pass judgement on a violent sport.

I’m still pissed a Germany.

word

They’ve got a “we have evolved” stick up their collective asses.

They should welcome the influx in foreign money that comes with UFC events, especially since they sat back and let Greece’s economy fall apart due to upcoming elections, which is kinda hurting their wallets now

Ooooh, did it just get all political up in here?

I went to Germany in the Summer of 2001, ( I was actually in the Newark airport at the same time as the 9-11 highjackers) and I was amazed at the level of ignorance among German folks in relation to WW2. It was like they refused to teach it in school. The people I talked to had a warped view of the war, and tried to convince me they were just as much victims as Poland, France, Belgum ect…

If you don’t learn from the past……….

I've been told as a collective, they don't talk about it

I’ve never been. But I was buddies with a girl who lived there for two years, and I dated a french foreign exchange student (maybe a lil biased, but she was super worldly and educated), and had a buddy who was stationed there for years, and my brother was stationed there as well. They all basically said that Germany tries to forget it ever happened
