Shogun Out till March of 2011 with Old Lady Knees

Shogunknee_medium

The last time we heard about UFC light heavyweight champion, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, he had just had his third knee surgery in three years. At the time no one knew how long the champion would be out but today it became public that Rua would likely be out until March. Yikes!

This development increases the probability of an interim title match (we thought Evans vs. Machida II when the news first broke). There's the rumored Rogerio Nogueira would Quinton "Rampage" Jackson fight but it seems unlikely that would be for an interim title. If the UFC proceeds with that fight it opens up a whole new deck of cards as anyone in the top ten who has a recent win could be in an interim title fight. That means Forrest Griffin, Rich Franklin, plus Jon Jones and Randy Couture are potentially in play.

Let the speculation begin!

Time for UFC to create another temporary fake championship belt like they end up doing every 3 months.

Time for Rampage vs Rashad II. First one did over a million buys. It makes financial sense to do rematch.

there is no nog vs. rampage

DW answered that there has been 0 talk of this fight, although its a possibility, but no more possibility than page v. Machida, page v. Griffin, page v. Evans, page v. Franklin, etc. Said they haven’t sat down and decided who is fighting who next

Tournament?

If Strikeforce can have a middleweight tourney, then why wouldnt the UFC crush that ratings grab with an amazing lightheavy tourney of their own. Think about it, Griffin, Franklin,Couture, Jones, Lil Nog, Rampage, Evans and Machida. You have willing alternates in Thiago Sliva and fan fav Jason Brilz. Why not force a real number one contender by having the mother of all contests. Dare I say UFC gran prix? Why not? They all say they want to fight the best, they all say they want to put on exciting fights, whats better than the best all fighting eachother for ultimate supremacy?

Forrest Griffin

being at the top or “in play” is a joke. He’ll sell PPVs though.
