UFC almost as popular as the NBA on Facebook

2nd place never looked so good

And by almost I mean the NBA has about a million more Facebook fans, but whatever. UFC almost wins!

MMA Mania made mention of this story yesterday, and, well, it looks like the NFL isn't the king of all things sports, after all. When it comes to Facebook, only the NBA (3.1 million) tops the UFC in fans. Boasting an impressive 2,269,450 fans, the UFC is crushing the competition to determine whose admirers have more free time on their hands.

Per the Chicago Sun-Times:

Sports entity            Facebook followers
NBA                            3,180,826
UFC                            2,269,450
2010 Olympics              1,209,379
WWE                             757,845
NASCAR                        702,701
NHL                               574,112
NFL                                508,906
WNBA                            283,779

Man what a bunch of pervs, ya see some ass and go crazy... jp

as far as the fb thing, it could probably be to the younger fanbase of mma. I forgot what the age range is, but mma has a large following in the 18-30 y.o. something range. The large majority of them have FB and/or some other type of social networking site i.e. Myspace… however, mma is a young sport compared to all the other sports mentioned, well besides the wnba I think, but who watches that? So yeah MMA by far!

nfl is definitely the number one sport in the u.s. college football is defintely number 2

facebook dont mean zhit. look at magazine coverage, espn coverage and fox sports coverage. basketball ratings have gone down while hockey ratings have gone up. in terms of gambling football has been king for 10-15 years. case closed.

I'm all about covering the spread and moneylines. Glory favors the bold. Chance favors the prepared mind. Luck, well i have that too. University of Utah goes to the Pac-12 conference in 2011. I expect them to compete immediately for the conference CG. I still will always follow the Mountain West Conference. Brock Lesnar will defeat Cain Velasquez and face the winner of Junior Dos Santos vs Roy Nelson where he will defeat JDS and stake his claim as pound for pound champion. Womens MMA, the next big thing in sports. 50 days and counting to the first game of college football. UTAH vs Pitt. September 2nd 2010.

well obviously facebook following isnt a direct indication popularity

There’s a million reasons why the UFC couldbe the top facebook following. The age demo mixes with facebook’s age demo as pointed out earlier. Also, the UFC goes to great strides to publicize its brandname, and not individual fighters persay. While the nba doesn’t so much, but individual teams do more PR. Add in that the UFC is much more internet saavvy than most sporting organizations…

I’m sure if you added the following of nba, every team, and every player it would dwarf that of the ufc and every fighter too
