It's Official. Jake Shields is a UFC Fighter

Graciefighter.com announced the inevitable news late last night:
Jake Shields will be debuting at the 170lbs weight division in the UFC. After careful consideration and consulting with UFC representatives it was determined Jake would be finally going back to his original fighting weight.
Jake's opponent is one of the UFC's top contenders and will be announced shortly.
No word on the length or value of the signing.
Parsing that statement it appears that there is no immediate title shot in the works for Shields. That leaves a lot of possibilities for Jake as "UFC top contender" could mean anyone from Jon Fitch to Anthony Johnson.

- If he doesn’t want to wait, face a top contender WITH a guaranteed title shot – He deserves it more than anyone else.
Anything else is bull. So scratch Swick, Paulo Thiago and Anthony Johnson off the list of possible opponents. No disrespect but they all recently lost and their not any where near in the top 3 contenders to GSP’s title. Fitch and Alves are locked up. Kampmann sounds like a possibility or maybe even Carlos Condit.

I think he’ll get someone like Kampmann to generate some footage, then move up to the AKA Title Guard.
I want to see if he can avoid getting Fitched on the ground; If not he’s got little chance against GSP.

I think it was still a good point. I just think that there aren’t many names who’ll have impact value outside of the AKA Triad and Alves, so better to just get him under a spray bottle as soon as possible, and then kick it up a notch if he makes an imprint on the fans.
I’d give him Hazelett as well, since that’ll give him instant grappling cred with the fans and give me a dope match. :)

no, i don’t fight. i was supposed to, thats where that picture came from. the guy i was supposed to fight backed out when his father had emergency heart surgery. after that, i realized fighting wasn’t for me. i’m married, and i spent WAY to much of my life training and neglecting things that should have been more important to me. so… long story short. no, i never officially got a fighting career started.

st. pierre vs koscheck – waiting for this winner/loser will put him on the shelf for a year.
thiago alves vs fitch – seems more likely, it would put him on the same schedule as GSP

Guaranteed. If they were argueing for a immediate title shot,you know it came down to he needs 1 win in the UFC to get his shot.
That leaves the WINNER of alves/fitch or kampmann. Dontforget kampmann had a #1 contender matchthat didn’t come through due to injury less than a year ago, and he just raped him some muppet.
Id go with kampmann, cuz he has a higher chance of winning and they want him in there tomake gspstand and trade
