Court McGee's Life Sounds Right Out of 'Trainspotting'

Courtmcgee_medium

Trainspotting is easily one of my favorite movies and I am starting to suspect that TUF 11 winner, Court McGee, is Mark Renton with a dash of Begbie's ability to kick ass and take names.

Here's McGee describing his descent into drugs and alcohol:

"I started hanging out with the wrong people -- drinking, partying. It went from that to worse, to drinking every night. I started mixing that with the alcohol and then it got worse. It went from that to cocaine and heroin, and then overdose. I was a horrible person, I was unemployable. I didn't have any friends. I was a detriment to society. I had nothing."

That sounds a wee bit like Mark Renton. Hell, even the overdose happened too.

"Court overdosed at his cousin's house. She [Court's mother]  was the one that opened up the door and saw him and he was dead. He was clinically dead. He always pushes the limit and for him it was death. We always wondered when he would hit rock bottom and for him it was death."

So how did McGee get out of the cycle of drugs?

"I took one drink in Vegas and I ended up in Iowa four days later with no pants on and a long sleeve shirt, looking for meth. I decided after that, you know, 'Well, it looks like I'm not going to be drinking anymore'. About a week and a half later on April 16, 2006, that was my last drop. That was it."

On a quick tangent, it's sort of odd how Trainspotting has become dated not due to the story or style but due to the drug. Heroine no longer taps into the social conscience the way that meth and other amphetamines do. Just look at the show Breaking Bad. Ten years ago that's a show about heroine now its a show about meth.

Anyway, Welcome back to life with the living Court.

I don't know dude.

H is still a big deal here in Seattle unfortunately.
You can always pick the junkies out, from their funky ballance, and their penchant for wearing alot of layers.

Love Trainspotting BTW, read the book if you want to be super depressed! :)

God help me, I have a problem. I'm a Shinya Aoki fan. I don't know what to do about it...

meth is certainly the scourage of america

This you are 100% correct. I’ve been around a lot of drugs in quite a few places (I wasthe stoner guardian for manya trippin druggie party) and I think heroine and coke are just as big as they used to be…

Its just that meth is so very very much more widespread. Its not that ppl have stoppedusing heroine, its just that its not a problemin comparison to meth.

When there’s a hole in the bottom of the boat (heroine) everyone pays attention to it. But when there’s a hole inthe boat, while the back end has completely fallen off (meth) nobody realizes that there is a hole in the bottom of the boat.
