Sokoudjou vs. Alexander at Shark Fights

82xdvec_medium
(It shouldn't have been Adrien Brody in Predators it should have been Sokoudjou!!!!)

Shark Fights announced that Rameau Thierry "The African Assassin" Sokoudjou will fight Houston "The Assassin" Alexander in September later this year.

Y'know what? This Shark Fights thing is looking cooler than Shark Week. Alright, that might be a slight exaggeration (nothing beats Shark Week. Well, maybe Sharktopus...) but that doesn't change the fact that this is a pretty decent card.

Granted if Sokoudjou vs. Alexander doesn't end in the first round then the fight might devolve into who has better lung capacity but it is still an interesting fight.

Plus there is a fight between Trevor Prangley and the recently dismissed Keith Jardine. That ain't too shabby for a promotion based in Amarillo, Texas.

Press Release after the jump.

Rameau Sokoudjou to Face Houston Alexander in the Co-Main Event at Shark Fights 13 on September 11   Amarillo, TX. - July 21, 2010

Texas based mixed martial arts fight promotion company, Shark Fight Promotions, announced today that Rameau Thierry "The African Assassin" Sokoudjou will face Houston "The Assassin" Alexander in the co-main event at Shark Fights 13. Shark Fights 13 will take place Saturday, September 11, at the Amarillo Civic Center in Amarillo, Texas.

According to Brent Medley, president of Shark Fight Promotions, "We are very excited to have Sokoudjou vs. Houston Alexander as our co-main event on the Shark Fights 13 card. Both fighters have impressive knockouts on their records and have thrown down with a long list of tough, notable opponents. This will be no different. This is a very important fight for both fighters and a great opportunity for them to prove to the fans that they are still top contenders in the sport. Be prepared for a full on battle between Sokoudjou and Alexander on September 11!"

Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou (9-6) recently defeated Joaquim Ferreira in the first round via TKO at Impact FC 1 - The Uprising: Brisbane, claiming his second consecutive win in 2010. Sokoudjou has fought for many of the top fight organizations in the industry such as Japan's PRIDE Fighting Championships, UFC, Affliction, Strikeforce, and DREAM. He has also defeated numerous top-notch fighters throughout his career including Kazuhiro Nakamura and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. At his PRIDE debut, Sokoudjou shocked MMA fans across the nation by defeating top middleweight contender Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in the first round, via KO. The bout lasted a mere 23 seconds. This was a defining fight in Sokoudjou's career and a fight that stands out in MMA history, due to the fact that Sokoudjou was a 16-1 underdog.

Sokoudjou had this to say about fighting for Shark Fight Promotions, "I'm looking forward to fighting for Shark Fights Promotions. I've heard great things about them from some of the fighters that have fought for the organization, including other Team Quest fighters."

Sokoudjou went on to say, "Shark Fights has put together a very impressive fight card that MMA fans will want to see. I'm expecting to step into the cage to face Houston Alexander in front of a packed crowd. Alexander better be ready, because I plan to go undefeated in 2010."

Houston Alexander (22-6-1), who recently defeated David Griffin via unanimous decision at UFA 1 - Clash at the Coliseum, is best known for fighting in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).  He also appeared on Spike TV's " The Ultimate Fighter - Heavyweights" in 2009. Alexander secured his most notable victory during his UFC debut, by defeating Keith Jardine via TKO, 49 seconds into the first round. Jardine, also a contender on the Shark Fight 13 card, immediately bounced back by defeating UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell at UFC 76.

Houston Alexander had this to say, "I am very impressed with the caliber of fighters on the Shark Fights 13 card and I'm honored to be part of the event. I'm ready to step into the cage, put on a great show for the fans, and add another win to my record."

Jardine vs. Prangley and Sokoudjou vs. Alexander are just two of the compelling bouts that will be featured at Shark Fights 13, on September 11, in Amarillo, Texas. Shark Fights 13 is completely stacked with high-caliber, well-known, marquee fighters. Shark Fight Promotions will be announcing the full fight card and additional details about the event soon!
