The Snowden says Kaufman should know her role and shut her mouth

Photo by Dave Mandel via Sherdog.com

On the heels of an impressive victory at Saturday night's Strikeforce Challengers 9, Sarah Kaufman should be riding high. Instead, she finds herself under the microscope of renowned nitpicker Jonathan Snowden from BloodyElbow.com. Today. Snowden wrote a scathing piece condemning "jabroni" Kaufman for daring to speak out against what she feels is Strikeforce's lack of commitment to Women's MMA.

This moment of glory, however, wasn't enough for Kaufman. In a triumphant victory speech she managed not just to insult Strikeforce,  among the first national promotions in the world to take a chance on women in the cage, but also every other fighter on the card.

"Get me on main cards on Showtime," Kaufman said. "I think I deserve it. Put me on there."

Just last year Kaufman was plucked from obscurity by Strikeforce to fight on national television against Miesha Tate, filling in for Kim Couture at the last minute. It was a big jump from taking fights in Vernon, British Columbia, but Kaufman apparently feels she's moved beyond other developing stars like Shane Del Rosario and Bobby Voelker and all the other fighters she threw under the bus last night and earlier in the week at her blog:

Snowden feels that, despite being a champion, Kaufman should be happy to fight in relative obscurity. She should be ecstatic that her title fight wasn't even the main event of the card. He believes that her desires to fight on the better Strikeforce cards are a diss to other fighters on the Challengers cards. Well, no diss to the other fighters but THEY AREN'T A CHAMPION.

Star-divide

A woman who saw the crowd abandon the building like it was on fire in her last fight, in a sport that has seen a grand total of one woman able to draw a significant audience, was actually complaining about Strikeforce putting her in the co-main event of a nationally televised card.  The ego on display there is staggering.

Numbers talk. And Kaufman's main event at Challengers 6 against Hashi was watched by just 150,000 fans. The next two Challengers shows doubled that number. Kaufman is in the right place-with other prospective stars looking to attract a following. And the Challengers cards are actually an enormous opportunity for Kaufman and other main eventers in these under the radar cards.

An interesting statement here by Snowden, "numbers talk". According to Snowden just yesterday, Anderson Silva is a poor draw. The same talking numbers say that he is the worst drawing champion by almost double. Should Anderson Silva be shunned to the undercard? No. Viewers turned away during a Jake Shields' title fight on CBS, should he have been relegated to Challengers-level cards? It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. Kaufman will continue to not draw viewers because Strikeforce refuses to promote her on the main cards. Strikeforce doesn't promote her on the main cards because she doesn't draw viewers. And round we go.

As an organization, you show commitment to your champions otherwise your belts become worthless. This is not the first time Scott Coker has shown a lack of brainpower in dealing with championships. We all know his 185 lb champion Jake Shields was allowed to go unsigned, his Women's 145 lb champ "Cyborg" Santos fought a journey-woman fighter with a .500 record, Brett Rogers was allowed to compete for the Heavyweight title after coming off a loss and a catch-weight bout was set up between Babalu Sobral and Robbie Lawler to determine the next contender for two different titles and the winner of the match declined to fight the champion.

In Snowden's quest for page views, he over-analyzes a post-fight interview by a frustrated champion who feels she is being under-appreciated. She isn't "throwing [anyone] under the bus", she just wants to be featured in a way that a champion should. She also knows that her on a bigger card means a) more money in her pocket and b) more eyeballs on the burgeoning sport of Women's MMA. Scott Coker has expressed the sentiment numerous times that he is fully committed to the sport of Women's MMA, well he needs to start acting like it.

Agreed; Snowden was way off on this one. Kaufman just isn’t the kind of person to make noise for no reason.

Once again, people

Asking for consistency from Snowden is like asking my dog not fart and stink up the whole room. You might as well be spending your time on more reasonable endeavors like hunting for unicorns.

He isn’t interested in offering his earnest opinions. He isn’t interested in swaying anyone’s opinion. He is interested in writing shit the will get everybody’s hackles up, and judging by it closing in on 500 comments, he did again. All the people that flock to his hack pieces to comment and complain are the very people that make it so profitable to do that kind of writing.

It’s a damn shame that over there you now only get a Michael Rome article once in a blue moon, but have the crap that snowden spews so everpresent.

Snowden comparing here to Del Rosario and Bobby Voelker is ludicrous. Del Rosario is a prospect, not a champ and Voelker is coming off a loss. Sarah is the undefeated Champion at 135. A champion by definition is no longer a prospect. The fact that she defended her title on a Card designed, and marketed, as a place to develop future champions was a slap in the face. It is a lot different than having a champ fight on say a UFN. If anyone wanted to know which fight was the big fight on this card look at all the MMA news outlets and see which fight they were talking about, it wasn’t the Del Rosario or Voelker fights.

And people need to stop with the Hashi fight. It takes 2 people to make and exciting fight and Hashi had no business being in their with here. The Tate and Bazlar fights were good fights.
Snowden is right that she only got her shot because Kim Couture dropped out. What does he think that she needs to sleep with a famous fighter to get a push?

Everytime you mention Snowdens name, a grown man gets his ass pinched.

this is why black lesnar is now a contributor

I couldn’t have said it better myself.

BE is full of this shit. Its a good place to get quick mma updates- like a fight being announced persay. They gather pics and videos from a bunch of sites too. But its a teeeerrible place to read articles. (I still like my brookhouse)

The urge to vote "IT DOESN'T MATTER..." was so strong.

But I made the right decision in the end and voted yes.

People do not like to think. If one thinks, one must reach conclusions. Conclusions are not always pleasant.

Agree 1000%. Asking to be treated like a champion while not saying anything bad about anybody is somehow undermining the organization and sport and fighters and blah….whatever else.

That guy is the biggest troll in the history of MMA Websites.
