Report: UFC Lobbying Victoria for MMA Regulation and Headed to Sydney in February, 2011
From The Sydney Morning Herald:
THE Ultimate Fighting Championship will use Geelong star George Sotiropoulos and the lure of a $15 million tourist injection to convince the Victorian government to allow cage-fighting into Melbourne, after the sport was again rejected by the state.
The article goes on to state that the UFC is probably returning to Australia early in 2011, that the location will most likely be in Sydney, Sotiropoulos will be a main selling point (editor note: co-main event or full title shot?) and that Zuffa will make a push for regulation in Victoria the state where the city of Melbourne is located (the key word in the above block is "again").
Then there is The Daily Telegraph which is a little more substantive on dates saying the UFC will return to Sydney in February, 2011. Plus they have Dana White thinking that every Australian is Crocodile Dundee:
"I love Australia because it's one of the most dangerous f ... ing places on the planet," White enthused. "You've got all those spiders and snakes. Real men's men.
Looks like the PR department at Foster's did their jobs well.
