UFC 117 Payroll: Silva $200k and Sonnen $35k...

Seems like reasonable pay, but $200k for the Spider who is considered the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world at least that's what Dana boasts every time in an interview when someone mentions Fedor. I concur tho, although many disagree considering his past antics in the octogan. I guess if you ain'tas (James) Toney would say, if you ain't Dana's "girlfriends" i.e. Chuck and Randy. You ain't getting PAID! If you have lack luster hump fest and get KTFO like (cough, cough) Chuck ($500K)...

As the article mentions, there are other perks...

UFC 117 salaries: Anderson Silva and Matt Hughes top $1 million fighter payroll

by MMAjunkie.com Staff on Aug 16, 2010 at 5:20 pm ET

The total disclosed payroll for the Aug. 7 event was $1.029 million.

The total paydays included:

Anderson Silva: $200,000 (no win bonus)
def. Chael Sonnen: $35,000

Jon Fitch: $108,000 (includes $54,000 win bonus)
def. Thiago Alves: $60,000

Clay Guida: $56,000 ($28,000 win bonus)
def. Rafael dos Anjos: $12,000

Matt Hughes: $200,000 ($100,000 win bonus)
def. Ricardo Almeida: $35,000

Junior Dos Santos: $80,000 ($40,000 win bonus)
def. Roy Nelson: $15,000

Rick Story: $22,000 ($11,000 win bonus)
def. Dustin Hazelett: $18,000

Phil Davis: $18,000 ($9,000 win bonus)
def. Rodney Wallace: $6,000

Johny Hendricks: $40,000 ($20,000 win bonus)
def. Charlie Brenneman: $8000

Tim Boetsch: $32,000 ($16,000 win bonus)
def. Todd Brown: $6,000

Stefan Struve: $30,000 ($15,000 win bonus)
def. Christian Morecraft: $6,000

Dennis Hallman: $30,000 ($15,000 win bonus)
def. Ben Saunders: $12,000

Now, the usual disclaimer: The figures do not include deductions for items such as insurance, licenses and taxes. Additionally, the figures do not include money paid by sponsors, which can oftentimes be a substantial portion of a fighter's income. They also do not include any other "locker room" or special bonuses the UFC oftentimes pays. They also do not include portions of the PPV revenue that some top-level fighters receive.

For example, as previously reported, UFC officials handed out $60,000 UFC 117 bonusesto Struve (Knockout of the Night), Silva and Hughes (Submissions of the Night), and Silva and Sonnen (Fights of the Night). Silva's double-bonus performance netted him an extra $120,000 in pay.

In other words, the above figures are simply base salaries reported to the commission and do not reflect entire compensation packages for the event.

I don't get it...

Why do these guys put up with getting paid peanuts for fighting in the UFC? When I see these figures it makes me want to say fuck the Zuffa bros and Dana the cheapskate White. I think Tito had a point.

Some guys have come out to talk about it

Before his last fight Seth Petruzelli was talking about it. He gets paid about 3/4 of what he gets on the smaller market as a headliner. So yes, he gets paid less in the UFC HOWEVER

A. He has stability. There is no fights falling through and such. As far as fight pay per year- it evens out cuz he’ll end up getting more fights.

B. There is much much much more sponsorship money

C. It’s the big fucking leagues man.

Sponsorship is the real grey area here. Once you’re at the UFC I imagine you’re name value goes through the roof. Hard to quantify, but I would expect it’s significant in the calculation.

that varies too

I’m sure you must get a higher dollar since you could be broadcast in the UFC. Even more if its a guaranteed to be broadcast fight- like Gabe Reudiger’s return (unlike say Louiseau’s return at ufc 115 being pure prelim). but popularity- theres guys who get a few fights in the UFC and dont gain popularity. John Salter. Nick Lentz from last card are two that werent any more known waling in on saturday then they were their debuts for UFC.

So tough to quantify. But I think its fair to say the big leagues lead to more money in general
