UFC 118 Results: Frankie Edgar Defeats BJ Penn Again in a 50-45 Clean Sweep
BJ Penn claimed that all Frankie would do is spruce up what he did in the first fight, and thats exactly what he did...and BJ couldn't do anything about it. Frankie secured multiple take downs, out boxed, and out kicked BJ Penn. In the post fight interviews, Frankie was all smiles. BJ gave Frankie a great deal of respect, and said he needs to go and think about things from here.
Frankie Edgar looked the best he ever has in his career, while BJ Penn looked incredibly similar to their first bout, not even putting up much of a fight until the fourth round, where he secure his first take down. BJ Penn will go down in history as a great fighter, without a doubt, but everything that made BJ Penn great, is missing now. He doesn't have that blood thirsty feel to his style anymore. It could very well just be that Frankie has his number, but we won't know until his next fight. Frankie will go on to fight Gray Maynard, who secured a dominating decision over BJ Penn tonight, in a rematch that saw Frankie take his only loss in the UFC. I really want to see BJ Penn rematch Takanori Gomi now, the timing is right, and it's a big fight. We'll see if BJ can find the eye of the tiger again, no matter who he fights next though.
