Huerta Claiming Self-Defense in Austin Street Scuffle

TMZ, taking a break from potentially libeling Roger Huerta, have decided to tell his side of the story:

TMZ just spoke with Roger Huerta -- the former UFC fighter involved in a bloody street fight in Texas this weekend -- who tells us he only got violent ... after the other guy swung at him.

In a phone conversation just moments ago, Huerta told us he tried to remain calm early Saturday morning when he watched some random "huge guy" punch a girl in the head in the middle of the street ... explaining, "I just don’t think that it's right to hit a woman.  Period."

Huerta tells us, "I approached the man calmly and said, "Do you know what you just did?  You just knocked out this girl."

But Huerta claims the other guy responded, "F*ck you, f*ck these bitches, I'll knock out any f*ckin' bitch that I wanna f*ckin' knock out, I’ll knock your f*cking bitch ass out."

Huerta added, "... and as he's saying this, he's taking off his shirt ... and at that point I was like, alright.'"

Huerta insists that he didn't throw the first punch -- and only reacted when the other guy "started swinging at me" ... and we all know what happened next.

"I got the better of him and I left," Huerta said.

The 27-year-old explained, "If that was my mom, if that was my sister, my spouse, anyone … I would’ve wanted someone to step in and do something about it."

This is grade A level trolling by TMZ - report a story (accompanied by sufficiently grainy film) erroneously, then post the correction/rebuttal, thus ensuring that everyone keeps coming back to check up on the story.  Shameless?  Sure.  Unexpected?  Only if you're stupid.  I reiterate my support of Huerta's actions throughout this altercation and fervently urge any Texas jury to see this for what it is and acquit Roger of any potential charges.

Also, it's nice to see Roger finish a fight.

This makes no sense. They reported Huerta was in a street fight. Huerta confirms. How does this fit the narrative you created above?

That's ridiculous

The original video story

Chaos ensues and people scramble after the fighters, blocking the camera — but seconds later … a shirtless Huerta can be seen finishing his attack on the other man … who is sprawled out on the street.

Emphasis added, because that’s not true. So, they reported it erroneously, now they’ve posted Roger’s version, and they’ll get a post about charges being filed or not filed or they’ll find the guy that got fucked up, but whatever other page hits they get now, it’s because they rushed out and breathlessly claimed something that was easily debunked.

Roger says “I got the better of him and I left”, which implicitly denies the extracurricular head stomps.

Not really

Called it before the fight:
Cardio - The BIG question. Does Shane Carwin have cardio? He's never gone past the first round. His muscle mass is astounding and we all know that with all that muscle comes a need for the heart to pump fresh oxygenated blood to keep them from building lactic acid. He does train up in the thin air of Colorado, so that can't do anything but help. However, we have seen him pretty winded after a 1st round fight. Adrenaline dump or cardio problems? We won't find out the answer to that until someone takes him out of the first round.

It’s a lot better than “I taught that motherfucker a lesson” – read the Cage Potato article and tell me TMZ didn’t jump the gun, intentionally or otherwise.

I'd say they reported based on what they knew in a rush to get the story out

and get views. Yes, it ended up not being wholly accurate.

That is thirdrate CSI stuff. Roger was in a fight with the guy. I think that makes it more likely than not that he is the guy pictured, you know, fighting the gentleman.

It’s the kind of thing that should be left to people that actually prosecute crimes for a living, not a fucking gossip site. They editorialized when they should not have in the interest of page views (ring a bell?)

I’m not sure how far the self-defense theory goes in a court of law.

I do feel violated by TMZ though.
