F@%* Strikeforce
This, apparently, is an important job interview technique I should pick up
(Cross-posted from Fightlinker - yes, it's an inflammatory title. I simply don't know how else to express my feelings at this point.)
I used to love Strikeforce. They were on NBC super late at night, they put on exciting fights, they had Cung Le back when people as dumb as me were hyping him as a future MW contender, and they allowed us to see Frank Shamrock get his ass kicked a few times, which is always nice. I've tried to support them - be it through my viewership or my constructive criticism. I, however, am done. The last straw:
Paul Daley's long-rumored Strikeforce deal has come to fruition.
Strikeforce officials today announced the welterweight fighter, a UFC vet who defeated Jorge Masvidal at this past weekend's Shark Fights 13 event, has signed a multi-fight deal with the promotion.
This is on the heels of Coker's signing of Steroids McGillicutty last week - looks like Barnett will be rewarded for the sinking of Affliction with yet another shot at Fedor at some point... unless, of course, Strikeforce folds up shop and goes out of business, which is now what I'm actively rooting for. Before, I just wanted them to go back to being a successful, competently run regional promotion. I can't do that anymore. I want them to die, die quickly, and take their memories with them.
It's one thing to have shitty "boobs and beer" MMA commercials. It's one thing to treat women's MMA like shit, create divisions specifically for fighters (SF has done this for both Carano and Diaz), sign guys specifically to lose (Greg Nagy fought on CBS Showtime. Let that sink in.) and employ Gus Johnson in a capacity which expects - nay, requires - him to speak. And I put up with it, because hey, they weren't the UFC, and they had to do what they had to do to survive. No more. Strikeforce, by signing a guy that committed unlawful assault in the ring (and another that was prevented from doing so by drug testing for PED's), has removed itself from consideration as a legitimate MMA organization in my eyes. They're all about eyes and viewership - staving off Showtime or CBS? - at this point, and that's sad. It used to be about MMA and all the things that make it wonderful.
So call me a UFC fan boy. My beliefs about what should happen to the top echelon of the sport doesn't have anything to do with my recognition of the necessity of smaller organizations. Strikeforce is a tumor on MMA - the sooner they are excised, the better.

I dunno
Personally I’d like to see Daley fight Diaz, or Barnett vs most SF heavyweights
Yeah the guys are damaged goods, and that’s why they’re in Strikeforce. Strikeforce isn’t the UFC, they’re not held to as high of a standard.
2010 signings
1. Walker – no business in a top flight promotion
2. Lashley – fresh off a TNA booking
3. Barnett – probably the biggest cheater competing in all of sports today (cant name any athletes who pissed hot or broke major rules 3 times)
4. Daley – failing to make weight in his last bout after being released by the UFC for suckerpunching as well as greasing and eyegouging
Your fault was for taking them seriously in the first place,
2010 fighers they've lost
Jake Shields

Dude, Walker is an athletic freak. He’s not a star yet by any means in MMA since his name is attached mostly to football, but give a guy a chance.
Lashley obviously has to do some work following the Griggs loss, no doubt there.
Barnett, if he’s proven clean, could be a great addition for them and add to their strongest division. I like it.
Daley has had some issues in the ring yes, but I think he’s a great fighter and I’m glad to see him signed again to a big name promotion. I hope he fights Diaz or Noons sometime soon.
He won the Heisman four years before I was born

My opinion is I’d like to see Daley fight at least in somewhat relevant promotions and I don’t think one mistake should expel from certain promotions other than the ufc while I understand that was a huge mistake
How about Barnett?
Are you going to watch if they give him yet another shot to pass a drug test and fight Fedor?

This article is completely ridiculous
SF has worked its way over the past years to becoming the second biggest promotion in North America, and one of the best in the world. Simply because they pick up a few fighters with blemishes on their record (Barnett, Daley) doesn’t in any way mean that they are a bad promotion. These guys are excellent fighters with great potential. They must prove themselves yes (by not taking steroids and not punching after the bell), but just because they were once with UFC and now are with SF doesn’t in any way take away from their potential greatness.
I love the fact that SF puts out a lot of free (aka not PPV) MMA for us all to enjoy. I love the fact that they have some of the best fighters in the world, and I especially love the fact that to me, it seems like they’re doing everything they can to bring in good fighters, as well as bring up new up and comers i.e. Cormier, Del Rosario, and others.
Every once and a while I see articles like this, or comments from people heralding the end of Strikeforce! or some other apocalyptic claim. SF has put together a lot of good shows lately, signed some big name and talented fighters, and seems to be rising. Give them credit for those things rather than trying to tear them down for a bunch of petty, currently insignificant drama just because you have a hangover from those fighters’ pasts (referring to Daley and Barnett).
I should point out that Strikeforce does not employ Gus Johnson, CBS Corp does.
Daley did an asshole move and was rewarded by a cut and a suspension (slap on the wrist I admit). Are all the the other companies supposed to ignore him now? He is a talented fighter that is likely to bring revenue, on top of it was part of a big controversy and will bring more revenue because of it. Don’t where the problem is.
Barnett still has to be licensed (in California at least) before he fights in the US. If he does, then I don’t see any issues. If he fails a drug test then he goes home and does not fight again for a while. Until he gets banned for life by every commissions I don’t see why Strikeforce would not use him to make money. Banned substances should not be in the sport but if you think there aren’t any in the UFC you are sadly mistaken.
Walker brought eyeballs to the show, for what was essentially an amateur fight, what exactly is wrong with that? Not the most exciting fight ever but the Nick Lentz-Andre Winner wasn’t that exciting either…. It happens.
Strikeforce is a second tier promotion doing what most second tier promotion do: try things to put eyeballs on the product.
All in all this is pretty par for the course for you.
My Strikeforce is TNA of MMA analogy is becoming more and more into fruition

They don't really
Full of has-beens and cast off.
They do have some good workers and entertainers, but for the most part WWE > TNA and that’s coming from a fan.
The WWE has talent that isn’t used right either.

Appreciate it for what it is Subo
Just be happy to see good fighters fight one another and drop the junior-high kid grudge. As long as we, the fight fans, get to see competitive matches then who cares what promotion or organization it’s for.
It’s not like these guys were murderers or rapists just let out of prison to fight in MMA. These are talented fighters that have made some stupid mistakes in the past and happened to find new jobs with some good competition for our entertainment.
So sit back, pick your poison (Jack for me), and enjoy some quality MMA!

For the record
it was EliteXC that made a weight class for Diaz and Carano. and if you’re saying EXC = SF then you’re retarded.
Both the UFC and Strikeforce continue to employ all the guys involved in the gang beatdown of Jason Miller, which in my mind was worse than what Daley did, so this seems like a strange last straw.
In any case, it’s the comission’s job to punish a fighter, not promoters — and for good reason.
Mayhem wasn’t supposed to be in the cage.

UFC fanboys everywhere
People make mistakes. Rampage got into a high speed chase with police, crashed into multiple cars and caused a woman he hit to have a miscarriage. Do I think that should be held against him? No way, but that was much worse than taking steroids or throwing a weak sucker punch against Koscheck (who probably deserved it)

Bullshit
The medical examiner said that the collision had nothing to do with that woman’s miscarriage. Nice red herring, though – seen a lot of those today.
