Winner of Okami Vs. Belfort will get next shot at Anderson Silva
It appears as if the UFC is swiftly moving away from a rematch between UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen in light of Sonnen recently failing his drug screening following UFC 117. The UFC released this statement informing fans of its new plans to determine an opponent for Silva.
via UFC Managing Director of International Development Marshall Zelaznik-
"We are glad to be coming back to Germany with UFC 122 and to reward our loyal UFC fans in Germany. Both Vitor Belfort and Yushin Okami are one win away from a shot at the UFC Middleweight Title and are coming to Germany with a great deal to win and lose. This is a sporting event with tremendous international significance, and we are delighted to have been able to bring this event to Oberhausen."
Belfort, who was originally slated to get a shot at the champ at UFC 112 before injuries forced him out, would assumedly be pretty upset with this move by the UFC. Belfort and fans alike have been clamouring for the Brazilian to get the next title shot since rejoining the UFC last year, but with only one victory in the Octagon over an aging Rich Franklin back at UFC 103, it's understandable that the UFC wants another marque win under his belt.

Not so fast.
Belfort gets beat by better wrestlers (Randy x2 , Hendo, Tito, Sakuraba, Chuck) and ’Reem (twice.)
Okami wins this one methinks.

Possibly
But Okami has always failed when main eventing a PPV, fighting in Europe, and fighting a ranked opponent
I think history continues this trend
He's only main evented once.
Okami has always failed when main eventing a PPV
Okami has lost 3 fights since 2004-10-12: Jake Shields, Rich Franklin, and Chael Sonnen. Not exactly scrubs.
Vitor is makeing his UFC 185lb debut (or Deyboo as Mike Schev would say) All but one of his losses were decisions.
Okami has the wrestling to put Vitor on his back where he struggles.
Okami is no longer a dark horse, expect the rematch between Okami and Silva.

Point stands that he lost against every ranked fighter he has faced. His record in the UFC is impressive, but its not filled with elite fighters, I would say his best victory is one over Swick who is now a WW
I think the trend continues
Okami wins include.
Mark Muñoz
Lucio Linhares
Dean Lister
Evan Tanner (R.I.P.)
Jason MacDonald
Mike Swick
Rory Singer
Kalib Starnes (watch him run)
Alan Belcher (UFC Debut)
Anderson Silva (Andy was DQ’d)
Izuru Takeuchi (MW KingOfPancrease)
Nick Thompson
Brian Foster
Ryuta Sakurai
Steve White (PRIDE debut)
Hidehiko Hasegawa
Okami has been around almost as long as Vitor, but has a much more well rounded game.
Okami via UD.
Anyone wanna put some money on the line???

I dont know why you stated his list of opponents as if im supposed to be overly impressed by them?
Mike Swick is the best name on that list as i already said
Now that he's fighting Nate, I'm less sure about Okami winning.
but I’m still picking him.

That logic works both ways...
Okami is way better now too.

Thats true, but a fight now with Alan would be a better indicator of where they are now
Okami/Nate will answer these questions about Okami being able to snatch the big one or fall flat again
Just rewatched Okami-Silva the other day
I was surprised by it. Okami’s standup looked absolutely horrific, and he still managed to take AS down with a really lazy shot from outside. His standup offense/defense is leaps and bounds improved now, and I think he’s got the size and technique to actually succeed with the same strategy Sonnen almost pulled off
