EA MMA Demo to Feature Alistair Overeem vs. Bobby Lashley, and Jake Shields vs. Jason "Mayhem" Miller

1t26ju_medium

On September 28th, the demo will be available to download on Xbox 360 and PS3.  We'll be able to use the two most naturally muscular heavyweights in the game, and recreate the excitement of the middleweight title fight between Shields and Miller.  On a more serious note, we will be able to finally get our hands on the nearly finished product, and determine for ourselves if EA hit or missed the MMA mark.

Recently released video of a full match up between Nick Diaz and Shinya Aoki ready for you to bash after the jump.

A few notes:

  • Yes, the fighters run around quite fast.  This has been a major talking point, but let's also keep in mind that the masses were at first complaining about fighters moving too slow in gameplay footage.  It is apparent that the heavier weight, the slower the fighter, but for 170, Aoki is especially quick...expect the movement speed to be toned down before the demo drops, EA has been very attentive to the fans.
  • It's obvious that the guys playing this were playing  to show off a few things, and/or weren't all that good at it.  No defending the takedowns, not a whole lot of transition blocking either.  I fully expect the CPU to be more competitive, as well as anyone who actually gets a good grasp of the game.
  • When fighters are in range, and not being dumb, the striking combos aren't bad.  Nick Diaz showed off a bit of those loopy hooks in the video, and I loved it.  As well as him rocking Aoki with a diving punch into guard.
  • The submission system looks freaking fun, period.  Far less aggravating than what Undisputed has to offer.  Don't you go crying button mashing either, because if you just tap the button designated, you'll gas and either get tapped, or the opponent will escape.  You have to use your head while trying to get your opponent to lose his stamina, without losing yours.  Some people are going to suck at this, and I can already tell you, don't complain about something that is TOO simple for you to wrap your head around.  Practice actually WILL make perfect with this system (and you won't get blisters on your palm from "shining").
  • On the 28th I'll be creating a post for those of you who want to really discuss the gameplay, create mini reviews for the comments, and have a real talk about it.  I'll be compiling a massive suggestion list to mail in specifically to the EA devs with all of our thoughts...things might not get changed for this game, but if there is a second, they'll certainly hear our thoughts.

Okay now, I know from past EA MMA posts there’s a few of you WKR readers who care about the game, or at least gamers that are aware of it…I’m going to guess you all are skipping out on work and the internet due to hangovers…

I just hope EA isn’t overly disheartened by the sales, there’s no way this is going to do very good, the potential is there though. I definitely prefer their international take on things, and if their online gameplay is anywhere close to what it looks like it’ll be, it’s going to be awesome.

And man, I want to beat Lashley up. That’s a bonus.

Way too many games out there

And the fact that it doesn’t have The UFC name behind it will hurt

Yeah, the gaming climate isn’t ideal for a release like this…coming out the night of Fallout Vegas is no bueno…this whole season is booked with decent releases. All the “maybe” purchases are now “not another 60 dollar game” non-purchases. It’s probably going to be ugly, to be honest.

Ideally, they would move this until January

But they want the Christmas rush.

They don’t want to piss off the hundreds of people who are actually anticipating the release…(holds in laugh).

Screw em, they don’t wanna wait, I’ll still be buying it, and playing the hell out of it.

Lol at using a guy that's probably never fighting again in the demo

The funniest part is that it’s actually how it reads on the fight finder. Might as well milk Lashley while they got him, although, he’s about as dry as he could be now.
