More UFC goodwill, Todd Duffee cut

In a division that can always use new prospects, the UFC just cut one. Todd Duffee, owner of the fastest KO in UFC history, has been cut.

From MMAJunkie:

A little more than one year after Duffee burst onto the UFC scene with a seven-second knockout of Tim Hague, the 24-year-old is no longer employed by the sport's largest mixed martial arts promotion.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) learned of the UFC's decision from multiple sources with knowledge of the move, and Duffee's manager, Alex Davis, confirmed the report.

Davis declined to comment further on the matter or speculate as to the reason behind the UFC's decision.

This is stupid.

I'm hearing

that it’s a lot more than that. Overall shitty attitude, combined with bitching about how they promoted him and he may have been turning down too many fights as well.

Forget it Donny, you're out of your element.

I believe it was both

They believe he pulled out of the Madsen fight because he was complaining about money and all that. It could’ve been a legit injury, but I don’t think they thought so.

The Diaz brothers are assholes...

and readily admit it, yet management doesn’t seem to have a problem with them.

Duffee is still young and evolving as a fighter, so I think DW and company made a big mistake in cutting him. They found a way to deal with Brock’s ridiculous victory tirade, Tito’s pathological lying and even Junie Browning (for a minute) but they can’t deal with a 24-year old complaining that he’s overhyped?

Heavyweight prospects are valuable and just aren’t a dime a dozen with Duffee’s size and potential…now maybe we’ll see him fight Cole Konrad in Bellator or Rogers in SF.

Agreed.

Maybe Duffman needed to lighten up a lil bit more — oh halfhearted yeah!

Diaz means asshole in street-slang

…in Stockton/NorCal areas anyway.

If you heard Nate spouting off after he beat Marcus Davis in his last fight, he was basically calling Maynard a bitch or “wanna-be tough guy”.

That could be considered an “asshole move” considering they were fighting on the same card in different weight classes…Diaz brothers = advocators of assholery.

I thought Diaz won that fight against Maynard.

Maynard has been using Diazs’ name to boost his rep, and I think that pissed Nate off.

But Diaz lost...

And Diaz isn’t even a contender or in the division at this point, so how would that “boost his rep” anyway?

His undefeated record against quality opponents (Miller, Huerta, Clementi, Siver, Diaz, Florian) and the ONLY man to beat dominate current champ Frankie Edgar should be sufficient to both secure him a title shot and help sell that fight.

talking shit on Maynard at the presser was hilarious

That’s what Maynard gets for bragging he beat nate when in reality…

Talk is cheap, Wins are golden

Nate got beat by Maynard, just ask the judges…and what Maynard “gets” is a title-shot for dominating KenFlo as a huge underdog. THAT’s the reality!

Actually,

Tall, muscular gym rats that think they can knock out anyone with one punch and gas after 3 minutes in the ring/cage are a dime a dozen. The term prospect has many different levels: Some are on the edge of being great, some are on the edge of being competitve, and some are on the edge of just being a fighter. Duffy is the latter. Also, acting like douche to your employer is never a good idea, no matter how good or valuable you think you are.

Actually

Didn’t Duffee dominate the first 2 1/2 rounds and get caught with a looping hail-mary punch from a desperate Russow? Maybe I was watching a different fight, but that’s how I recall it happening.

And IF he truly had a leg injury, which is why he pulled out of the Madsen fight as well (according to him), then that could explain why he didn’t utilize many takedowns and deliver some GnP instead of just standing up and slugging it out.

I think he’s got the tools to become a contender with the right training/camp, so hopefully he does just that and catches on with SF or Bellator to get some quality fights and much-needed experience.

Fuck those neckginas.

Nick fucked up on reading the ass/asset bit, thought it was spin control from Duffman’s manager, and when I pointed out that Gross admitted that he had fucked up, he deleted the entire comment tree and anything referencing it. They wanna talk shit about your lack of journalistic integrity, they can shut the fuck up and own up to their mistakes first.

when you lose to russow there really is not much lower than him. who was he ducking.

I'm all about covering the spread and moneylines. Glory favors the bold. Chance favors the prepared mind. Luck, well i have that too. University of Utah goes to the Pac-12 conference in 2011. I expect them to compete immediately for the conference CG. Brock Lesnar will defeat Cain Velasquez. Womens MMA, the next big thing in sports. Utah and Boise take care of business in week one. Don't be surprised if they both go undefeated.

Usually when guys get cut due to losses it’s right after the show, not two months later, so it definitely seems like behind-the-scenes issues to me. A real shame.

Man! But no other Heavyweights look so cartoony :(

by offshoredawn on Sep 7, 2010 9:30 PM EDT reply actions

That's a shame.

Who knows why it happened, but the ‘turning down too many fights’ angle seems to ring the truest. Sonnen went out of his way to talk about guys like that needing to get in line, which more than anything indicates there is an actual issue with that in the current UFC stable.

I liked following Duffee.

Yep

The guy seems to be adversarial with UFC, I remember I used to follow his twitter and he started bitching out the @ufc account because they mentioned he used to work at a Dairy Queen. Uhhh….like they should apologize for hyping him or something?

Nevermind the fact that he looked completely one dimensional in his debut and some time on the small show to round out his game would probably do him well.

But no, the sheer fact that’ he’s a heavyweight means UFC is stupid for cutting him.

Looks like Todd Duffee fell into the same trap alot of other hyped up guys fell in he believed his own hype in and out of the cage.

Sadly sometimes you need a reality check to get your shit together because he’s not worth all the bs he’s reportedly been spewing.
