TUF 10 Episode 1 Recap: That's a lot of blood

Of course the episode begins with Rampage and Rashad jawing at each other. Dana White walks in to break up the verbal sparring. I really think three of them should have a sitcom.

Kimbo Slice gets his own personal entrance and then its on to the evaluations. Luckily for Rashad he has Greg Jackson helping him out on this season.

Rashad and Rampage go on to make their picks. Rashad wins the toss and elects to pick first. Rampage takes Kimbo Slice with his first pick.

Team Evans                          Team Rampage
James McSweeny                   Kimbo Slice
Roy Nelson                             Wes Sims
Justin Wren                             Zak Jensen
Jon Madsen                            Demico Rogers
Mike Wessel                           Abe Wagner
Darill Schoonover                   Scott Junk
Matt Mitrione                           Wes Shivers
Mike Wessel                           Marcus Jones

Rampage gets to pick the first fight and picks Abe Wagner to fight John Madsen. Rashad couldn't be happier with the pick stating that Rampage picked Rashad's best wrestler to fight someone with zero ground game.

The pre-fight interviews are pretty vanilla and I am reminded why the TUF format is becoming stale.

While Abe said he knew the takedown was coming in his interview he couldn't defend it worth squat as John shot in immediately and secured the takedown. Madsen stays in Wagner's guard for about two minute before he lands a solid punch. John lands some more ground-n-pound and Abe is bloodied. After some more punches a significant pool of blood (really it's a small pond) forms on the mat and Madsen continues to posture up and land punches. Of course there are thirty second intervals between combos. Did I say there was a lot of blood before, because by the end of the round it looks like there was a voodoo sacrifice-ritual inside the Octagon.

The second round begins exactly the same as the first. If Abe couldn't do anything in guard during the first round, the loss of a pint of blood definitely prevented him from doing anything in the second round. Rampage offers insightful advice like, "hey, get up." The fighters are stood back up and Rampage begins to yell, "he's doing the same thing" in reference to the inevitable takedown. John gets the takedown and Rampage storms off in disgust. The judges score it for Madsen.

John Madsen def. Abe Wagner via unanimous decision (20-16, 20-17, 20-17).

We found out later that Abe's cut was to the bone which begs the question, why didn't the doctor stop the fight?

Cage Cast 31: Fight Night 19 and UFC 103 Preview

Ppv-ufc-103-header_medium

Alright, I know I have been saying this for two weeks know but I promise that the hosting issue will be resolved. Most likely Cage Cast will have to migrate to a new host so I apologize for all the mumbo jumbo in the podcast land.

Anyways, you can download this episode of Cage Cast below,

**Cage Cast 31: UFC Fight Night 19 and UFC 103 preview**

WKR talks about the shocking news that Randy Couture and Brandon Vera will headline UFC 105. Survey says, "What the f@#?"

Next we preview the televised card of UFC Fight Night 19: Diaz vs. Guillard. Both Spencer and Zak agree that the Huerta-Maynard fight is the main event.

UFC 103: Franklin vs. Belfort preview follows the Fight Night talk. Zak mourns the loss of Mike Swick for the Kampmann fight and almost has a breakdown about the possibility of Mirko "Cro Cop" being knocked back in time to Yugoslavia. While Spencer reminds everyone how freaking sweet Rich Franklin is and we should all appreciate him more.

Finally we talk about TUF 10 and Kimbo Slice.

TUF 10 Odds

Whose going to win the tenth season of The Ultimate Fighter? Who are the favorites to go all the way? Which fighters are in way over their heads and are there for Kimbo to knock out?

While no one has the answers to these questions (unless you TMZ a crew member) there are gambling odds for who will win this season of TUF. No surprise Roy Nelson is on top at +285 but surprisingly Kimbo Slice is one of the favorites at +600. What about those former NFL players like Wes Shivers, Brendand Schaub, Marcus Jones and Matt Mitrione.

Well Wes Shivers has the same odds as Kimbo at +600 with Schaub and Jones near the top of list. On the other hand Matt Mitrione is a long shot at +1500.
  • Roy Nelson +285
  • Demico Rogers +500
  • Wes Shivers +600
  • Kimbo Slice +600
  • Brendan Schaub +700
  • Darrill Schoonover +750
  • Wes Sims +800
  • Marcus Jones +800
  • Zak Jensen +900
  • Abe Wagner +1000
  • Justin Wren +1200
  • Mike Wessel +1500
  • Scott Junk +1500
  • Jon Madsen +1500
  • Matt Mitrione +1500
  • James McSweeny +1600

UFC News and Notes

As with all major UFC events there is a plethera of information flowing out from the ether that is the world wide web. Unfortunately for those of us with lives we can't stay plugged into the Internet forever, so here is a recap of the news going into UFC 100.

  • Justin McCully claims that Junior dos Santos is hurt and is pulling out of their fight.
  • Junior dos Santos claims he is not hurt and is in fact fighting Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic at UFC 103. So that's why Lorenzo Fertitta flew to Croatia.
  • Dana White goes on the record stating that if Michael Bisping defeats Dan Henderson he will get a middleweight title shot.
  • Ryan Bader announced his UFC return on Twitter feed. He will fight Eric Schafer at UFC 104. I though Bader's knee exploded in his last fight?
  • UFC has a new television partner in Mexico.
  •  Steve Steinbeiss and Ryan Jensen  will fight at The Ultimate FIght Night 19
  • Jon Fitch feels his bout is a "throwback" fight.

Roger Huerta sighting! Huerta to fight Gray Maynard at TUFN 19

Missing-roger-huerta_medium

Ladies and Gentlemen we have a Roger Huerta sighting.

According to Loretta Hunt of Sherdog, Roger Huerta (20-2-1) will fight Gray Maynard (7-0) at the The Ultimate Fight Night 19 in Oklahoma City on September 19th.

Roger Huerta burst onto the UFC scene with a six fight win streak and was being groomed for a top spot within the organization. Then Huerta got a taste for the movie business and decided that fighting with no standardized pay, insurance or benefits was not his thing. Huerta hasn't fought since August of 2008 where he lost to Kenny Florian and has only one fight left on his UFC contract.

Huerta will be facing Gray Maynard. Maynard is an alum of the fifth season of The Ultimate Fighter and is currently riding a five-fight win streak. Maynard has appeared on many observer's short list for future lightweight contenders and if he wins this bout he will be one step closer to a title shot.

There will be a lot on the line for both fighters.
